Brookhaven Newsletter

June 2012

The season is in full swing and moving very fast. Hard to believe it’s the middle of June already. The golf shop appreciates everyone’s patience and understanding as we make it through June with the numerous outings on the calendar. I have met with the town and we are currently considering a number of options and are discussing various ways of how we can continue to offer outside events and maintain our daily play from pass holders and the general public. If anyone has any feedback or suggestions, please see me and I will be sure to pass it along at our next meeting.

Our next Brookhaven event is the Parent/Child this Saturday. Any parent can play with up to 3 children. This event is in honor of Father’s Day but is open to Mom’s too. We will make sure that any young children will receive a prize. We are currently short on teams. We will make a decision on Thursday whether or not to hold the event. Please call the shop if you are interested in playing. Also, the Brookhaven Mixer will be Sunday June 24th. It is open to all pass holders and the public as well. Couples can request to play in the same group. The format is abcd scramble and teams will be drawn 10 minutes before tee-off. Cost is $35 pp for pass holders and $65 for non-pass holders (includes cart/gf). Tee-off is a 9am shotgun. Sign-ups will be taken until Wed. the 20th so we can give a count to Kate for food. Breakfast and lunch is included in the entry fee. We will be putting out details for both the Ladies and the Men’s Invitational soon. Again, please make sure to check the calendar for the rest of June for any course closings or shotgun starts.

The course is in fabulous shape and compliments keep rolling in. One of our recent outings has signed on for next year already because of the improvements and conditions of the course. Our hats go off to Chris and Tom and their staff for the wonderful job they are doing. Tom has told me that the stakes are almost all painted and we will be marking the course in the next few days. The local PGA section was kind enough to assist in determining the proper marking of all hazards and out of bounds. They also helped draft our local rules sheet, which is available in the shop and has been posted on the golf carts. Our new scorecards are in print and will include the local rules and also yardages for the dogleg tee shots. We recently had a survey crew re-shoot our yardages and will be placing markers on the tees for both doglegs and the par 3’s.

Our outings have been keeping Kate and her staff busy as well. Last week alone the restaurant served over 300 outing players as well as our regular play. All of the feedback from the outings has been positive. The new patio is now open and ready for everyone to enjoy. Come have lunch or enjoy a drink under one of the umbrellas while watching everyone finish on the tough 18th hole. Dozers has some spots left on their annual bus trip to Yankee Stadium June 27th. Please see Kate for more info.

P.S. The recreation dept. will be holding it’s annual junior camp in June and July this year. June’s dates are the 25th thru the 28th and July dates are the 23rd-26th. Please call the recreation dept. @ 893-7432 x307 or the pro shop 893-7458 for more info.

If anyone has any information or news that they wish to have added to the monthly newsletter, please get it in to me by the 5th of the month. Hope to see everyone at the mixer on the 24th!
